Janine Noel, Editor

For nearly ten years, I have been working-one-to-one with talented writers in all stages of their writing lives. I find it thrilling to watch both fiction and nonfiction work become more vibrant and focused, speaking to universal themes, and leaving a lasting impression on readers. I particularly love helping writers in all genres create unforgettable characters, cinematic scenes, and stories that shine through fresh prose.

Developmental Editing

I offer developmental editing, a collaborative process to help you build a stronger story. I read deeply and analyze each work for craft elements (point of view, narration, character development, plot, subtext, structure & more) and I suggest targeted ways to strengthen your work. With new craft knowledge and a sharpened eye for revision, you become the writer you are meant to be.
I offer tailored services as well as guidance, support, and accountability along the way. I meet writers where they are in their projects. Some writers may have a few opening chapters of a book while others may be polishing a later draft. We meet via Zoom for reviews.

I provide editing services in the following genres:

  • Fiction: novel - literary as well as genre specific, such as women's fiction, sci-fi etc.

  • Nonfiction: memoir, essays/essay collections, genre specific, such as self-help, parenting.

Additional services include:
  • Application consultation for those considering an MFA Program in Creative Writing.
  • Select Family History /Memoirs.

  • Select Middle Grade / young reader projects.

If you live in the Bay Area, we can meet in person for reviews. Local clients often meet via Zoom & in person.
